Where is the BLAM FAM???
posted by Marc Gilchrist on 25 Jul 2008

I was in Georgia doing an internship and Brooke and the boys joined me in late June.  After they were there with me for 3 days I found sores and was extremely ill.  One trip to the Doctor and I found the Staph Infection was not killed.  One call to my insurance found that they would not cover this s it was a "preexisting condition".  So hello free health care in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  One call to my dad had me on a flight the next day and into the hospital in Calgary I went.  Many tests and IVs and consults with infection disease specialists and I needed to go to a new clinic for MRSA Infections.

One appointment later I found I had infection over my body and internally.  There is no actual treatment but some new regimes they are coming up with so they put me down for experimentation.  A few days alter Brooke and hey boys flew up to Calgary and we have been here for over a month.  I am feeling much better and still waiting on some experiment and home made medicine the clinic is making.  I have made many "plans" of when I would return to GA or school but everything was completely up in the air.

However, with some faith, better communication and blessings I am planning to return to GA on the 1st of August with the family.  I will not complete my internship hours and it is likely I have a resistant recurrent infection and may live it forever.  So I can get sores and ill easily but I am not contagious unless I get sores.  I honestly felt like a leaper when I first came here, I was so scared to infect my family and others.  Now I understand all about the infection and have done research on this "un-tested illness".

So we look to the future... I am still tired and out of it but I realize now that life goes on... and so must I.

So the BLAM Family will see you down the road:)

So scary. My little brother has MSRA and they are doing the best they can to treat it. He may have permanently lost sight in his one eye. It's so scary all these new infections and bugs that are untreatable!!! I really hope things get better for you! You'll be in our prayers.

I think you need to update your website once more as you are in Calgary until the 23rd (I believe). Remember to take care of yourself while we're in Ottawa-Gatineau.
Love, Mom

P.S. Remember our unlimited long distance phone plan - please use it:) you know where will be.

That's so scary. Thank goodness for the health care in Canada! What a blessing! I hope that things get better and that you will be able to finish your internship and move on. Our prayers will be with you and the family.
